Manchester United have submitted a bid to sign Bayern Munich  Jerome Boateng according to reports from England. The Sun reports that United have submitted an offer of around £22,3 million for the German star. This low fee is due to the Boateng demanding a salary of £12.5 million to sign for the Red Devils.

Boateng has been regarded as one of the best defenders in the World since his return to Germany 7 years ago from United rivals Manchester City. The 29-year-old has been made available for sale after telling the Bayern Munich of his desire to take up a new challenge. Boateng has won 6 Bundesliga titles and the champions league in Bayern Munich during this period of dominance by the German giants.

Mourinho has made it known to United chiefs of his desire to bring in a quality centre-back this summer. United have been linked to Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld, however, the Spurs asking price of £70 million has seen negotiations drag on for the defender who turns 30 next season.  Leceister Defender Maguire has also been targeted by the Red Devil as the clock ticks down to the end of the window.

United would have to bring in one of these targets to appease their manager as he plots a title challenge.  Boateng would be an excellent signing for United as he is still a world-class performer despite his injury problems over the years.
