£26.5M signing confirms why he agreed to sign for Arsenal

Lucas Torreira transfer move to Arsenal was one of the most talked about story in this summer transfer window, as the deal had to wait until Uruguay ended their 2018 World Cup campaign.

The midfielder has since put pen to paper, and recently revealed why he favoured a move to the North London Club. The €30 million signing from Sampdoria said the idea of playing for a big club was too good to turn down.

“I like Arsenal because it is a top team. It is a great club playing in the best league in the world.” the midfielder said

“I am also excited about playing with my new teammates.

He also admitted following the Gunners’ progress in the Premier League.

“I always followed Arsenal because I like Premier League crowds. Stadia are always full! Those things are a source of motivation for me. That’s why I am here today.”

Torreira signing has been greeted with delight by the Gunners Faithful as they have been crying out for a midfield dynamo since the departure of club legend Patrick Vieira. Torreira is expected to slot seamlessly into the first eleven and provided protection to the defence.

His performances for Uruguay specifically in the defeat of Portugal suggest the Gunners have gotten a bargain.

Unai Emery has been shaping the squad and the confirmation of Torreira increased the number of major transfer this summer to four.

Arsenal had earlier in the summer completed the transfers of defender Stephan Lichtsteiner on a free transfer from Juventus. German stopper Bernd Leno joined from Bayer Leverkusen while Defender Sokratis signed from Borussia Dortmund.

Arsenal fans would be hopeful that these signings would help the club challenge for titles in the upcoming season.
