ALan Shearer: Liverpool are no better under Jurgen Klopp

Newcastle legend and former England player, Alan shearer has dropped a massive statement about Liverpool by claiming that the English side have barely made a significant progress from where they were under former manager Brendan Rogers, ever since he was replaced by Jurgen Klopp in October 2015.

Brendan Rodgers was sacked in 2015 despite mounting a serious title challenge in the 2013/2014 season but was replaced by former Borussia Dortmund manager, Jurgen Klopp who hasn’t managed to challenge for the title as much as they did under Brendan Rogers.

Alan Shearer also criticised Liverpool’s poor defense which has come under scrutiny for quite some time. Liverpool’s defense appears to be the weakest part of the team and the manager failed to make any significant remedy to this problem after the deal to sign Virgil Van Dijk from Southampton failed in the transfer window.

He has thus far paid for this through the humiliating 5 – 0, following the defeat against Manchester City and the disastrous defense that led to their 1 – 1 draw against Burnley over the weekend. But the manager reiterated his faith in his players in his recent statement saying:

“We want to make right decisions. A big part of football and life is really put faith in the people you work with – trust them – because they all can improve. They all can. They are all good out there. I had to make a decision and the decision was our boys are not worse than them,” Klopp said before Liverpool’s draw with Burnley.

It appears Alan Shearer is having none of it as he said in his Sun column:

“The truth… is that Liverpool are no different under boss Klopp than they were under Brendan Rodgers.

“What I witnessed on Saturday in their draw at home to Burnley was laughable. I am left wondering just what he does on the training ground when the same defensive errors are repeated week in, week out.”
