Alvaro Morata could be out for more than six weeks

Chelsea’s club record signing Alvaro Morata is set to be out of action for at least six weeks due to a grade II hamstring he suffered on Saturday during Chelsea’s 1 – 0 defeat against Manchester City.

The Spanish forward was diagnosed with a grade two myofascial injury by Spain team doctors and has since returned to London for further assessment to confirm the severity of the injury which has been reported to mean that the striker could be on the sidelines for over a month.

The 28-year-old had earlier given fans hope of his early return with an instagram post suggesting that he is fit to play for the blues in their next match against Crystal Palace, but the player as since deleted the post.

Alvaro Morata joined Chelsea from Real Madrid in the summer for a club record fee of £58 million. He has so far had a successful campaign for the blues having racked up 6 leagues goals in 7 games which is tantamount to 50% of the clubs 12 goals in the Premier League so far this season.

Antonio Conte as affirmed how important the striker is to his squad but with this injury and the departure of Diego Costa, it would mean that Chelsea will put their hopes on Mitchy Batshuayi who has been impressive with his late goals for the blues one of which is the match winner against Atletico Madrid.
