Antonio Conte hopeful on David Luiz return despite broken wrist

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is optimistic on David Luiz return to his squad to face Spanish side Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League game on Tuesday despite his broken wrist.

David Luiz broke his wrist during the league match against Arsenal on Sunday after colliding with the advertising board in the first half of the match but he continued playing until he was sent off in the 88th minute for the rough tackle on Sead Kolasinac. He was given a straight red which happens to be his first ever for the blues.

The blues Central defender missed Chelsea’s 5 – 1 thrashing of Nottingham Forest in the league cup tie on Wednesday and is expected to miss their next two matches against Stoke City and Manchester City due to his three match suspension.

However, Chelsea’s tactician Antonio Conte is ready to pin his hope on the defender’s return so that he can make the team to face Atletico Madrid in their second UEFA Champions League group match in a bid to maintain their impressive run which saw them defeat Qarabag by 6 goals to nothing. When asked about David Luiz:

“He must be OK,” Conte said.

“David is an important player for us . For sure he will be ready for the game against Atletico Madrid.”

The 30-year-old Brazilian defender was a member of Chelsea’s side that won the Champions League final match against Bayern Munich before joining French Ligue 1 side Paris Saint German for £50 million, a world record fee for a defender. He returned to Chelsea in 2016 for £34 million.
