Arsenal to agree deal in January for €35m Ligue 1 star

Despite the transfer window in Europe officially closing on the 31st of August several transfer news are still making waves in anticipation of the January transfer window. One of which concerns Arsenal as reports in France claim that Arsenal are lining up a bid for Nicolas Pepe.

The Lille striker is highly rated in France with his last season form one of the reasons the French club was able to escape the drop last season. L;’Equipe further reports that Arsenal had tried to sign the player during the summer with the French club wading of bids from the London club.

Arsenal had a busy summer bringing in Bernd Leno, defenders Stephan Lichtsteiner and Sokratis Papastathopoulos, and midfielders Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira. However, it is believed that the club needs natural wingers and Nicolas Pepe is viewed by Emery as a potential fit to his plans.

Arsenal faces a fight for the player’s signature as Sevilla, Real Betis and Lyon have all expressed interest in signing the player. This is an interesting news as we don’t think Pepe is a player of Arsenal calibre but so was Guendouzi who has started the season well.

It remains to be seen if Arsenal would revisit the transfer during the winter transfer in a few months time.
