Arsenal confident of signing Manchester United target – report

Arsenal and Manchester United have been linked with a move for Schalke 04 midfielder, Leon Goretzka, but it is looks as though the Gunners have him in the bag already.

The Sun reports that Arsenal are increasingly confident of signing Goretzka ahead of the other clubs who are vying for his signature. The 22-year-old said that month that he would make a decision on his Schalke Career amidst interest from top clubs in Europe.

With a less than a year left on his current contract, Goretzka looks set to leave on a Bosman transfer when the summer transfer window opens or be sold in January. The report does not suggest when the transfer will happen but it is believed that the German international would see out his contract at Schalke before making the supposed move to England.

A number of Arsenal’s key players are set for the exit door, as the likes of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez are yet to reach an agreement with their club. Also, Santi Cazorla’s injury has all but ruled him out of the season, hence the need to sign a creative midfielder to make up for numbers.

Gortzka can play from the right wing as well and may arrive as a free agent which makes him an archetypal Wenger signing.
