Arsenal eye £35 million-rated defensive midfielder – report

Arsenal are reported to be interested in signing Sevilla defensive midfielder Steven N’zonzi as per report from English tabloid The Sun.

The 28-year-old has been on Arsenal’s radar before during his time at Stoke City and the thought of him donning the Arsenal colours was welcomed by the Gunners who had once witnessed his wrath in the games against Stoke City.

N’zonzi left for Sevilla after the Spanish side activated his buyout clause in the summer of 2015 but a disagreement with his manager Eduardo Berizzo has seen him fall the down the pecking order of midfielders at the club.

Spanish publication, AS, reports that a return to England could likely happen, with the likes of Everton and Arsenal weighing their options ahead of the January transfer window. Arsenal have the advantage should both clubs go head-to-head for star since the offer of European football is an irresistible incentive for the France international to spurn.

The Arsenal fans have often clamoured for a ‘big DM’ at the club, though they seem to have been placated by the arrival of Granit Xhaka. However, inconsistent results, this term, has continued to raise issues as to whether Xhaka could deliver consistently at the top.

The player has a release clause worth £35million but Sevilla could yet offload their star for a little less to avoid having an unhappy man in their ranks. N’zonzi has not played for his current side since the 3-3 draw against Liverpool in November.
