Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck suffers groin injury

Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger confirmed to pressmen that Danny Welbeck injured his groin in the goalless draw at Chelsea on Sunday. The striker who was down with pain during the second half of the match struggled to carry on until he was replaced by Olivier Giroud after 73 minutes.

Danny Welbeck has since undergone a preliminary scan on Monday and is expected to undergo a definitive scan on Tuesday amid fears that he could be out of action for four weeks depending on how severe the injury turns out to be.

The 26-year-old, who joined Arsenal from Manchester United in 2014 for £16m, has suffered many career setbacks due to injury, one of which saw him out of action for eight months in 2016 and only made 20 appearances for the club last season.

The news of his injury comes as a major concern for the Gunners because he has not only been a part of their starting XI in the 5 matches played so far this season but he’s also their leading goal scorer with 3 goals to his name this season.

Arsenal will not be the only one affected by his injury but also his national team.

The manager of the England National team has identified him as a key member of his squad who are looking to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.

Danny Welbeck returned to the squad for the English national team against Slovakia and Malta where he was able to score.

Reacting to the news, Arsenal Coach Arsene Wenger said

“He has a groin problem”, “I don’t know how severe it is but it looks like a good groin problem, not an easy one”
