Arsenal hoping to announce £12m agreement for midfield stalwart in days

French midfielder, Francis Coquelin is on the verge of completing a £12 million winter move to Spanish side, Valencia from Arsenal according to reports from English publication Sky Sports.

The defensive midfielder has reportedly agreed a four-and-a-half year deal with the Spanish outfit and has undergone a medical at the Mestalla.

The French international has found games hard to come by so far this term after falling down the pecking order to the likes of Jack Wilshere, Granit Xhaka, and Aaron Ramsey in the middle of the park and has been majorly used in cup games.

The 26-year-old joined the Gunners in the summer of 2008 from Stade Lavallois after a successful trial with the club but made his first start for the Gunners in the third round of the League Cup against Westbromich Albion on the 22nd of September 2009.

After loan spells at Freiburg and Lorient, he was recalled from a loan spell at Championship side, Charlton Athletic in December 2014 due to an injury crisis at the Emirates.

However, after series of impressive displays as a substitute, the Frenchman became a regular for the Gunners and established himself as one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League having forged a good partnership with Spanish maestro, Santi Cazorla in a midfield pivot.

He is known for his dribbling, interceptions, tackling, passing, winning aerial duels and concentration.

The combative midfielder has spent a decade at the Emirates amassing a total of 159 appearances for the Gunners since joining the club in 2008.
