Sensational reports from England claims that Arsenal are interested in signing Manchester United ace Juan Mata on a free transfer. Mata is currently in the final year of his current contract and is yet to agree on a new deal with United.

The former Chelsea player is understood to have been told by United that his contract would not be renewed. This situation means that Mata is free to sign a pre-contract with a new club and several clubs have expressed interest in the player.

Arsenal are looking to take advantage and could begin negotiations with Mata’s representatives in the coming days. Mata is renowned for his playmaking abilities and set-piece qualities. Emery is keen to add experience and versatility to the squad, the 30-year-old fits the bill and can play as a midfielder or a winger.

However United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly keen on the player to extend his stay at Old Trafford. When quizzed on the future of Mata, David De Gea and Anthony Martial the interim coach expressed hope that negotiations would come good for the club.

: ‘I think the club’s making progress but I leave that to the right people to do that. ‘I don’t know really how far we are away from it but hopefully, we’re going to have some good news in the coming weeks.’

Mata joined United from Chelsea in the winter of 2014 and has made 154 appearances for the club scoring 32 goals.
