Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Germany International midfielder Leon Goretzka.

The 22-year-old caught the eyes of many clubs in Europe after helping Germany win the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia last July.

The midfielder’s current contract at Bundesliga side Schalke runs down next summer and clubs are already stepping up their interest in him.

But having become one of the most sought-after players in Europe after the Confed Cup, the German has refused to renew his deal at Schalke and wants a move away from the club.

Goretzka is reported to be favouring a move to Bundesliga Champions Bayern Munich while the idea of joining former European Champions Barcelona also interests him.

However, Arsene Wenger wants to try his luck by capturing the midfielder. The Frenchman has reportedly sent scouts to monitor the player while playing for Schalke.

The scouts are expected to report to Wenger what they observed while watching the 22-year-old play and that could result in a concrete approach being made for the player or the idea of signing him being squashed.

If Arsenal finally decide to sign the midfielder, reports claim he will be handed a mouth-watering deal.

With the future of Mesut Ozil still very much unclear as the German has refused to pen a new deal at the Emirates stadium, his compatriot could prove to be a good and cost-effective option.

At 22, Goretzka’s best years are ahead of him and it will be wise and lucky of any club that snaps him up in the summer.

Arsene Wenger has always maintained he will spend the cash for the right players and the German thus looks like the right player for Arsenal.

A deal for the player who already has 10 caps for Germany could prove to be the right peg in the right hole.
