Attacker verbally agrees deal with Arsenal

Alex Iwobi seems to have met succor under the tenure of Unai Emery with reports from the Mirror saying that the 22-year-old is set to sign a new 5-year contract extension. The new contract is worth £60,000 a week which is double of his current wages.

Iwobi is highly rated by Emery who views the midfielder as an important player in the team. The Spaniard reportedly refused to sanction a £20 million sale of the Nigerian international to Lazio this summer.

Iwobi’s career looks as though it stalled ever since he broke into the first team in 2015 and many in the club are hoping that the player can blossom under the tutelage of Emery. It seems this is the case as the new contract is a step in the right direction for the young midfielder.

Iwobi had a disappointing World Cup where he played just 62 minutes for Nigeria despite being touted as one of the star players in the team.

The Nigeria international will be hoping to succeed as he has lesser competition going into the new season after the exit of Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Unai Emery has gone about his business with little fuss by bringing in five players as he prepares for the new season.
