Better than Bakayoko – Chelsea hold talks to sign midfielder this week

Chelsea have been linked to several players since the arrival of Maurizio Sarri to the club and one transfer news that refuses to die down is that of Matias Vecino. The Inter Milan Midfielder has been linked to the club since last month with many believing the move to be blocked.

However Italian outlet Calciomercato has reported that Chelsea chiefs are expected to hold talks with the Uruguay international this week. Vecino is currently on holidays having been given an extended break due to his participation at the world cup and wants his future sorted out quickly.

Inter Milan qualified for the Champions League for the first time in four years, however, the club may need to sell some prized assets to fulfil FIFA’s financial fair play obligations. Vecino is believed to be one of those that the Nerazzurri could cash in this summer.

Reports suggest that Inter Milan value Vecino at £35 million but could agree around £30 million for the 26-year-old. This would represent a profit for the player who only just arrived from Fiorentina in a deal worth £20 million last summer.

The meeting by both parties could be the start of the groundwork for a transfer to Chelsea. Sarri is keen on the player who he worked with during his stint at Empoli. Vecino is expected to bring solidity to the midfield which was sorely lacking last season after the exit of Matic to United.
