Better option than Fabregas: Chelsea told to pay €50 million for star midfielder

Chelsea’s bright start to the season under Maurizio Sarri has been fun to watch as the Blues remain unbeaten in all competitions. One player that has been integral to the Blues bright start is Mateo Kovacic who has wowed fans with his playing ability.

The Croatia International is currently on loan and latest news from London indicate a stiff tussle for his signature at the end of the summer.

The Croatian contract with Real Madrid runs until 2021 and includes a release fee of €300 million. According to news reports earlier in the week, Real Madrid had informed Chelsea that Kovacic would only be sold for a fee of €50 million.

However, Chelsea chiefs believe that the evaluation is too steep and have told Madrid to reduce the price for the 24-year-old. Chelsea are in a strong position to negotiate for the midfielder due to the form of Ross Barkley and Rueben Loftus-Cheek.

Chelsea would benefit from making the move permanent as Kovacic is a top midfielder there is still a long time until the end of the season for both clubs to reach a settling point. Kovacic has made 12 appearances for the Blues scoring once in all competitions.
