Can Alex Iwobi succeed Mesut Ozil?

Arsenal fans are currently in a dilemma with the big question on whether or not Alex Iwobi can successfully replace Mesut Ozil.

German international playmaker Ozil is tipped to be among the next set of players to bid farewell to the Gunners after refusing to extend his contract which ends at the end of the season. Arsenal fans are already considering potential replacement for the star man with youngster Iwobi being an option.

I believe the shoes of Ozil will be too big for Iwobi to fill at this early stage of his football career even though he’s a player with a lot of potentials due to these reasons:

The moment one hears the name Ozil the first word that comes to mind is Assist because Ozil is notable for his world-class assists compared to Alex Iwobi who has registered only six assists in his professional football career for Arsenal. Take into consideration that Ozil almost broke Thierry Henry’s league record 20 assists in the 2015/2016 season where he recorded 19 leagues assists.

One will see a bright player with skills in Alex Iwobi but at the same time he has a lot of growing up to do. His shooting power also lacks the needed flair as he his terrible at converting chances. Even though Ozil is not a regular goal scorer he still converts his chances better in front of goal than Alex Iwobi.

The importance of the experience of a World Cup winner like Ozil cannot be underemphasised when compared to that of a player like Iwobi who is just trying to make his mark in professional football. I believe Iwobi still has a lot of learning to do by watching closely how Ozil does is magic on the pitch.
