Chelsea close to completing £30million move for second January signing

Chelsea are reportedly closing in on a £30 million move for Roma forward, Edin Dzeko ahead of a potential winter move.

The Blues have been in the hunt for a back-up striker for summer signing Alvaro Morata having watched the Spaniard struggle massively in front of goal over the past few weeks.

The Spanish international is currently low on confidence and has failed to score in any of his last six games across all competitions.

The west London club have been heavily linked with Andy Carroll, Marko Arnatouvic, Peter Crouch, and Fernando Llorente but none seems to be forthcoming.

However, reports from English publication the Sun understands that the Blues have agreed a fee in the region of £28 million with Roma for the Bosnian forward but the deal could rise up to a fee in the excess £30 million based on ad-ons and bonuses.

It is believed the Premier League champions have been in advanced talks with the Serie A outfit since last weekend and are hoping an agreement can be reached between both clubs within the next 48 hours.

Although, the Blues have lined up a surprise back-up option in Burnley striker, Ashley Barnes should a move for the former Manchester City striker fail to materialise.

The 31-year-old tick all the boxes for the Blues and will provide stiff competition for out-of-form Spanish forward, Alvaro Morata given his proven Premier League experience and finesse in front of goal.

He has featured in 26 games for the Serie A giants this season scoring 12 times and providing four assists.
