Chelsea are reportedly hoping to complete a double swoop for Roma stars Edin Dzeko and Emerson Palmieri before the window shuts.

Antonio Conte has always spoken of his desire to bolster his squad this January transfer window and the Blues are still keen on bringing a striker and a left-sided defender having completed their first signing of this winter transfer window by signing Ross Barkley for a reported fee of £15 million from Everton a fortnight ago.

However, reports from English publication the Telegraph suggest the west London club are hoping a £44 million bid can be enough to lure both Edin Dzeko and Emerson Palmieri away from the Stadio Olimpico this month with the club looking at the possibility of bolstering their squad before the window closes.

Although, it is believed the Blues are close to signing Brazilian defender, Palmieri having agreed personal terms with the player pending a medical, but a deal for Edin Dzeko is still in doubt with both clubs still in advanced talks for the Bosnian target man and are yet to agree on a fee.

It is believed the former Manchester City striker agent will fly into London for further talks with the Blues this week.

The Premier League champions going for the duo of Emerson Palmieri and Edin Dzeko makes perfect sense given their lack of quality covers in both areas.

The 31-year-old will provide stiff competition for struggling and out-of-form striker Alvaro Morata who has failed to score in his last six games across all competitions while 23-year-old defender, Palmieri will serve as a good cover for Spanish defender, Alonso and will keep him on his toes.
