Chelsea ‘in talks’ over £44.5m deal for defender wanted by Maurizio Sarri

Chelsea are understood to be considering a move for Napoli defender Elseid Hysaj according to reports. The Daily Mirror reports that Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri does not like his current options and has informed the board.

Hysaj is rated highly in Italy for his marauding runs and ability to cross quality balls into the box. Napoli reportedly value the defender at around £45 million despite the player playing fewer minutes under Carlo Ancelotti

Sarri views Hysaj as a perfect fit for his philosophy and a player that can challenge Ceasar Azpilicueta for a spot in the starting line-up.

Azpilicueta is known for his conservative approach and has managed just 3 assists in 30 matches all season. Chelsea are looking to fund this transfer by offloading Victor Moses and Davaide Zappacosta to Fenerbache and Lazio respectively.

Hysaj has struggled for consistency this season and has found himself behind Nikola Maksimovic and Kevin Malcuit in recent games. The Albanian current contract runs until 2021 and other clubs such as Juventus and Inter Milan are interested in the right back

Hysaj was the subject of transfer speculations in the summer but a deal failed to materialize due to the clause in Sarri’s contract.

The 24-year-old has played 155 times for Napoli in all competitions and has the required tactical nous to succeed in England.
