Chelsea keen on €42 million-rated defender as David Luiz nears exit

Premier League champions, Chelsea are reportedly keen on signing Italian defender, Leonardo Bonucci in the January transfer window.

Reports from English publication Mirror suggest that the Italian is unhappy at the San Siro and could be set for a sensational move away from the Italian giants despite joining them in the summer.

The former Juventus defender was a primary target for Conte and Guardiola in the summer but the defender sealed a shocking move to rivals AC Milan for a reported fee of €42 million after falling out with key members at Juventus.

However, according to reports making the rounds the Italian international could be the subject of a two-way transfer battle between the Premier League champions and the Citizens in the winter transfer window with both clubs keen to bolster their squad next month.

The former Bari defender is one of the best defenders in the world but he has failed to hit the standard in which he was renowned for at Juventus since his summer move to AC Milan.

Although, many will attribute his struggles to the Milan’s poor form despite spending heavily in the summer.

The 30-year-old is often deployed as a ball playing centre back especially in a three man defence and he is known for his technique, passing abilities, ability to read the game very well and his leadership qualities.

He has featured in 21 games for the Italian giants across all competitions scoring zilch goals and providing just one assist.

Although, he might be suffering from a dip in form, his qualities can’t be undermined and would be a good addition to the Blues.
