Why Chelsea need Antonio Conte

Chelsea Manager Antonio Conte is under pressure after Chelsea’s latest defeat in the league against Manchester United. However, the Blues boss should be allowed an extra season at the London club for diverse reasons.

Firstly, Conte is a world-class tactician and is still one of the best in setting up his team for matches. As seen in the Champions league match against Barcelona where he was hailed by the media for his tactical masterclass. The Italian is able to make Chelsea return to the pinnacle with time and patience.

Conte has repeatedly bemoaned the quality of players at his disposal, with what he has been able to achieve in his short stay at London he deserves extra time to mould the team. His conversion of Victor Moses from a winger to a wing back and introduction of Christensen shows the Italian is not afraid to make big decisions. Conte has been regularly criticised for being tactically inflexible, but he has proven over time that he can tweak things to improve his team.

Chelsea would also signal an intent of stability as the London club is known to sack managers when things are going bad. Sticking with Conte would give the air of continuity, and convince key players like Edin Hazard and Thibaut  Courtois to sign long-term contracts.

All is not lost for Conte although the Blues are two points of the champions league places, they are still in contention in the champions league and FA Cup. Importantly after the league match on Sunday against Manchester City, they have six straight fixtures against bottom teams. This gives Conte enough time to steady the team and prove his credentials.
