Chelsea now favourites to sign £44 million-rated midfielder ahead of Barcelona

Premier League champions, Chelsea could steal a march on Barcelona’s top target Arthur Melo who has been highly tipped to make a move to the Nou Camp next summer.

The Catalan giants could miss out on their key target who has been regarded as a potential successor to the aging Andres Iniesta after the Gremio youngster was pictured putting on a Barcelona shirt alongside the Spanish giants representative, Andre Cury last week Friday.

The picture has not gone down well with the Gremio hierarchy and they have insisted they won’t discuss any potential transfer of the Brazilian midfielder with the Catalan giants and this has made Chelsea the favourite to sign the central midfielder.

Antonio Conte wants to bolster his midfield options despite boasting of players like Kante, Fabregas, Bakayoko and Drinkwater in the middle of the park, but reports from English publication the Mirror suggest Conte sees him as a potential successor to Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas due to their similar playing style.

However, he has grown into one of the finest midfielders in the Campeonato Gaucho after series of impressive performances and he won’t come cheap with his release clause set at £44 million.

He is often deployed in a central midfield role and has featured in 37 games for Brazilian side Gremio so far, this season and has scored 2 goals.

The 21-year-old is known for his vision, versatility, tackling, passing and his defensive contribution and will be a quality addition to the Blues given his age and massive ability.
