Chelsea set to open talks for David Luiz replacement

Chelsea are reportedly ready to open talks with in-form centre-back Andreas Christensen over a new long-term contract over in the new year.

Reports from English publication the Evening Standard suggests the Blues wants to tie the Danish international on a long term deal before the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia next year in a bid to ward off potential suitors ahead of next summer transfer window.

The Danish defender joined the Blues in 2012 from Brondby IF on a free transfer and made his official debut for Chelsea in the Blues 2-1 away win at Shrewsbury town in the fourth round of the League Cup on the 28th of October 2014.

He was later sent out on a two-year loan deal to German side, Borussia Monchengladbach in 2015 after failing to break into the Blues squad but returned to Chelsea in the summer and has since benched key defender David Luiz after series of impressive displays and has even led to talks of the Brazilian linked with a move away from the Bridge in the January transfer window.

With the level of composure, consistency and concentration shown by the Denmark international he has showed he has what it takes to become a top class defender in the future.

The 21-year-old has featured in 21 games for the Blues across all competitions and he is known for his calmness, concentration, passing and composure on the ball.
