Greek Star Kostas Manolas is linked with a shock move to Premier League side, Chelsea.
It is reported in Italy that the London club are expected to trigger the player’s buyout clause of £38 million. The Blues are set to make the defender their first signing as they seek to bolster their defence ahead of next season.
Manolas is arguably one of the best defenders in Italy, as his performances for Roma has earned him accolades from followers of the Italian football. This has resulted in interest from European bigwigs with Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool reportedly interested in the player. However, it is Chelsea who have reportedly moved quickly to secure the transfer of the player from Italy.
Furthermore, Chelsea have reached out to his representatives with a five-year deal worth £85,000 a week which would double what he currently earns in Roma. The player is yet to publicly confirm or dispel doubts on his future though sources close to the player indicate initial talks have been positive.
The transfer of Manolas could lead to the departure of Brazilian Luiz, the defender is a subject of a transfer move to Napoli. However, the transfer of the player is still subjective to the managerial situation at the club. Manolas, 27, made 40 appearances for the Roma as the club reached the semifinals of the Champions League.
