Chelsea step up pursuit of reliable midfielder, £40m sees deal done



Premier League champions, Chelsea step up chase for Belgian midfielder, Radja Nainggolan ahead of a potential January swoop according to reports in Italy.

The Blues have been linked with a move for Bayern Munich star, Arturo Vidal this month but with the Bavarians not ready to sell the Chilean midfielder this month, Conte has reportedly step up interest in long-term target Radja Nainggolan whose future at the Stadio Olimpico looks uncertain after the Belgian was dropped for the game against Atalanta last week Saturday by Eusebio Di Francesco due to his antics on his social media platform Instagram on New Year’s Eve.

However, a report from TransferMarketWeb suggests the Blues would try to take advantage of the situation in other to lure the Belgian to the Bridge this month with Conte keen to bolster his midfield options.

It is believed the defensive midfielder could be available for a fee in the region of £40 million after the Belgian recently extended his contract at the Stadio Olimpico last year till June 2020.

He has been a regular and has impressed in the middle of the park for the Giallarossi so far this term and has featured in 21 games across all competitions for Roma scoring twice and providing four assists.

The former Cagiliari midfielder is known for his pace, versatility, tackling, vision, dynamism, technique, long shots, concentration and defensive contributions.

The 29-year-old is often deployed as a defensive midfielder but can also play as a playmaker and a winger.

Given his level of consistency and qualities he would be a brilliant addition to the Blues and would bring balance to the Chelsea midfield with summer signing Bakayoko struggling for consistency.
