Premier League champions, Chelsea have reportedly suffered a huge setback in their pursuit of Italian defender, Giorgio Chiellini who was a primary target for the Blues in the winter transfer window.

The Italian international was linked with a reunion with his former manager, Antonio Conte in the January transfer window having played under him at Juventus.

Report making the rounds understands the Italian defender was touted as a potential replacement for out-of-favor star David Luiz who continues to be linked with London rivals Arsenal and Catalan giants, Barcelona in the winter transfer window.

Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte has not hidden his desire to bolster his squad in the January transfer window after falling 14 points behind Premier League leaders, Manchester City who have only dropped four points so far this term, but the Blues might have to consider other options with the Italian ready to commit his future to Juventus.

The 33-year-old currently has 6 months left on his existing contract at the Allianz Stadium and can sign a pre-contractual agreement with any club of his choice this month but when quizzed about his future, he said;

‘Extend my contract with Juventus? I’ll meet the club after the holidays to discuss the contract extension and I think that there won’t be any surprise. He also added,

‘Juventus feels like family to me and I couldn’t be better.’

He is often deployed as a centre-back but can also play as a left-back both in a three or four man defence.

The former Fiorentina defender is known for his leadership qualities, passing, aerial prowess, strength, positional sense and tactical awareness.

The defender has featured in 19 games for the Bianconeri across all competitions scoring zilch goals and providing one assist.
