Chelsea on the verge of signing Thibaut Courtois’ replacement

Chelsea transfer window shows no sign of balance as the Blues have brought in only one signing despite links to several players over the past few weeks. Former Liverpool stopper Pepe Reina has been linked with a move o Chelsea.

Chelsea are apparently seeking for a replacement for no 1 Thibaut Courtois who is reportedly close to a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid. Courtois has been vocal in the past few months of his desire to leave Stamford Bridge for Madrid due to homesickness. His partner and two children live in Madrid and the Belgium stopper has expressed his longing to be united with his family.

Pepe Reina is seen by Blues boss Pepe Reina as a short-term fix to the position and could be available for only £5 million. Sarri has prior knowledge of Reina having managed the stopper during his time in Napoli and had a good relationship with the Spaniard.

Italian sports outlet Gazzetta dello Sport claims that a move could be on the cards as the Thursday transfer deadline looms. Reina is not a stranger to the EPL as he spent 5 seasons with Liverpool making 395 appearances for the Anfield side.

Chelsea fans would be disappointed if Courtois leaves and is not replaced by a quality stopper though  Reina is a decent goalkeeper, but still a level below Courtois. However, he could suffice as a short-term fix for the goalkeeping position.
