Chelsea have been making the headlines over the signing of Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth £58million. The Blues announced the deal last week, beating Liverpool and Tottenham in the race to sign the highly rated forward.
The 20-year-old is expected to join Chelsea at the end of the season after the club loaned him to the German side for the rest of the season. The American international has had to respond to questions about his new club.
When quizzed by ESPN on why he chose Chelsea ahead of Liverpool, Pulisic failed to answer the question directly. Instead, the fleet-footed forward revealed his admiration of the Blues style of play under Maurizio Sarri.
He also revealed his delight in making the decision to join Chelsea and said that the coach’s philosophy fits his style of play.
It’s not something I want to talk about, I’m very happy with my decision to join Chelsea. I’ve seen their style of play.
I’ve always appreciated how they’ve played football, and it’s really nice how they play now, with their new coach. It fits me very well.
Pulisic is expected to bring pace, creativity and guile to the frontline and could be a long-term replacement for Eden Hazard. He could also be the long-term replacements of wingers, Pedro and Willian, who are both in over 30.
The 20-year-old is currently with the German club on a warm-weather training camp in Marbella as the club prepares for the second half of the season.
