Club chief confirms transfer talks with Chelsea, player wants move

German side, Schalke are reportedly growing confident of signing Chelsea defender, Baba Rahman on a permanent deal this month.

The Ghanaian defender suffered a serious knee injury at the Africa Cup of Nations in January 2017 that ruled him out for the rest of the season but he is now close to full fitness after returning to back to training.

The Ghanaian international joined the Blues in the summer of 2015 for an undisclosed fee from German side, Augsburg but was sent out on a season-long loan to Schalke 04 in 2016 after falling to impress manager, Antonio Conte in pre-season who described the defender as being too attacking minded.

The defender impressed at left-back for the German outfit in the first half of the season but had to return to his parent club, Chelsea for the remainder of the 2016/17 campaign having picked up a serious injury at the Africa Nations Cup in January 2017.

However, reports from Germany suggest that the German outfit are ready to bring back the Ghanaian full-back this winter transfer window and are already in talks with the Blues over a potential deal this month.

Schalke 04 Sporting Director, Christian Heidel as quoted on a potential deal for Baba Rahman this winter transfer window, he said;

“We are in talks with Chelsea regarding Baba Rahman,” He also added.

“There are still one or two things to clear up on their end. We could agree on a deal with the player himself relatively quickly.”

Although, it is believed Antonio Conte is ready to use him as a back-up to Spanish wing-back, Marcos Alonso who has been impressive so far this term but the prospects of playing regularly at Schalke might be too difficult to turn down.

The 23-year-old is known for his pace, crossing, dribbling, versatility, concentration and tackling.
