Defeat to Swansea City highlights Liverpool’s mentality problem

From the highs of tormenting Manchester’s City defensive pair of John Stones and Nicholas Otamendi to the surprising defeat at rock bottom-side Swansea city. The unpredictability of Jurgen Klopp’s tenure at Anfield was clearly summed up by the outcome of these successive matches.

Ruthless against top sides and complacent against the weaker ones, It is a tale that is all too familiar with Liverpool fans, The Merseysiders were on an 18-match unbeaten streak prior to the match against the Welsh side. Their performance though was of a team lacking composure as they struggled to exert their supposed authority against the bottom side club.

With a chance to increase the gap between them and fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, the Reds lacked synchronization in their pattern of play. The players’ movements were at times too pedestrian and a sharp contrast to the swashbuckling style on show against Manchester city a week ago.

notwithstanding the sale of creative wizard Coutinho to Barcelona, Liverpool do have bags of pace, power and energy up-front and undoubtedly are one of the best attacking sides Europe so rightly should hold no fear against the top teams, however, they do tend to struggle against lesser teams who seemingly opt for an ultra defensive approach thus limiting the space in which they thrive on.

The amount of points squandered against the lesser lights under Jurgen Klopp has been staggering and ultimately proves Liverpool have a mentality problem in seeing off teams they are expected to beat. This
issue needs to be resolved by the Klopp ,if his team are to challenge at the very top. Right now though,  It is their volatility that threatens to undermine a promising campaign.
