Diego Costa is a better option for Chelsea than Alvaro Morata – Ray Wilkins

Former Chelsea assistant manager Ray Wilkins has said that though Morata is a better footballer, he prefers to have Diego Costa play ahead of him for Chelsea.

Alvaro Morata who joined Chelsea from Real Madrid for £70 million this summer has scored three goals in five league games, but could not successfully get pass the Arsenal goal line on Sunday as he repeatedly found himself being bullied by Arsenal’s Shkodran Mustafi.

Though Morata has adjusted to the Premier League’s style-of-play this season and have proven himself to be intelligent and classy on the ball, he seems to lack the brute force with which Diego Costa uses to oppress the Premier League defenders.

The Brazilian, Diego Costa who has not featured in any match for Chelsea this season after disclosing during pre-season that he received a text from Chelsea manager Antonio Conte that his services are no longer needed at the club, failed at his attempt to move back to Atletico Madrid and has since refused to return to Chelsea despite being included in the manager’s team list.

Costa who is gifted in provoking opposition defenders, creating drama on the pitch and winning physical contests has shown how much he is missed in the blues team after Alvaro Morata struggled to get past the Arsenal defense line which Costa does often with his dirty antics which produces results and was instrumental to their league win last season.

According to Ray Wilkins on skysports: “I see a better footballer in Morata – better control, movement and probably quicker”

“But when I look at the beast in Costa…. he upsets people. I’d much rather have Costa than Morata”
