Done deal: Chelsea second January signing to undergo medical this weekend

Chelsea are getting closer to signing long-term target Gonzalo Higuain on a loan deal from Juventus according to reports from Italy.

Italian tabloids Sky Sports Italia and SportItalia carry corroborative reports claiming that Higuain is set to end his loan spell at Milan and will undergo medical at some point this weekendu ahead of the switch to Stamford Bridge.

Both reports reveal that a move to Stamford Bridge is only a matter of time as negotiations have been concluded by all parties involved. The 31-year-old appeared to have played his last game for Milan in the Italian Super Cup defeat to Juventus on Wednesday.

His brother and agent Nicolas was reported to have jetted into London on Thursday to finalise personal terms with the Premier League club. Details of the transfer are sketchy for now but it looks like it could be a complex 18months loan deal.

The loan deal is expected to be an initial 6 months loan deal which can be extended for a further 12 months depending on the player’s performances during the initial loan spell.

Higuain’s arrival would put an end to one of football’s long-running transfer saga as the player has been linked to the club since the arrival of Maurizio Sarri in the summer. Sarri was quizzed in his pre match press conference against Arsenal about the forward.

The Italian tactician remained coy admitting that he knows nothing about the news and trusts Chelsea chief Marina Granovskaia decisions.

“I don’t know. I want to be clear, I spoke to Marina [Granovskaia] two weeks ago, she knows my opinion and then I decided to be focused on the pitch and training.

“I know that Marina is working very hard, but I know nothing about the market. I don’t call her every evening, otherwise I spend my energy on the market, it is better to spend mental energy on the pitch.”
