Done deal? personal terms agreed, Leandro Paredes seals €47 million transfer

Chelsea have been dealt a blow in their quest to bring in a new midfielder as reports say that PSG have agreed on a transfer fee for Leandro Paredes. The Zenit St Petersburg playmaker had been favoured to make a switch to Stamford Bridge.

An initial offer of €41 million was made by the Blues which was rejected by Zenit. However, it was thought that both sides were on the right track to agree on a deal. The Argentine international appeared to suggest this notion by liking a caption on Twitter about the transfer.

However, in a late twist, PSG entered the race for his signature after failing in their bid to sign Dutch prodigy Frenkie De Jong. Paredes is believed to have cost the Paris club around €45million.

This news would be disappointing for Chelsea fans who had hoped that the highly talented midfielder would sign for the club. Chelsea coach Maurizio Sarri would have to look inward for replacements for Fabregas.

The Blues currently have Mateo Kovacic and Danny Drinkwater as back-up options with Rueben Loftus-Cheek out injured.

It remains to be seen if the West London club would try to bring any new faces to the club before the transfer deadline next week.
