Done Deal: Wenger confirms first January signing



Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Greek defender, Konstantinos Mavropanos is set to be announced as the Gunners first signing this winter transfer window but will be loaned out immediately in other to get regular playing time.

Arsene Wenger as quoted after the Gunners 2-2 entertaining draw at the Emirates last night, he said;

“He’s not ready to play for us. He also added,

“We’ll give him out on loan.”

The deal for the Greek international is expected to be completed within the next few days as the defender is expected to travel down to the Emirates to undergo a medical and agree personal terms.

It is believed the Greek defender will cost the Gunners around £2.2 million.


Report from English news outlet the Standard understands the Greek youngster is primed to join German side, Werder Bremen on loan till the end of the season.

The highly-rated defender made his official debut for Greek side, PAS Gianna on the 29th of November 2016 in a 1-0 win and he has impressed at the back for the Greek Super League side so far this term scoring three goals and providing zilch assists in 16 games across all competitions.

The 20-year-old is known for his concentration, aerial prowess, defensive contribution and he is also regarded as the next best thing to come out of Greece.

Given his age and qualities he could be a long-term perfect replacement for the aging Per Mertesacker.
