Early injury news as Jurgen Klopp faces midfield problem for Liverpool vs. West Ham

Liverpool’s boss Jurgen Klopp appears to be facing a challenge as he prepares for the club’s Premier League opener against West Ham.

Klopp’s side seem confident and ready as the team kick off their third full season under his leadership but there could be a challenge from the absences of players and unlikeness of the fitness of players following the World cup tournament.

Reports from the Liverpool Echo’s James Pearce claims Fabinho’s presence in the Sunday match is unlikely after he left training on Thursday with a minor muscle injury.

However, Fabinho made an appearance for the Reds in their final warmup game against Torino on Tuesday but he played in the midfield during the first half and made a switch to play as a centre back for 25minutes in the second half.

Speaking after Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Torino, Klopp maintained that Joe Gomez is fit to start against West Ham regardless of his shortcomings in the pre-season, he also insisted that if Gomez is unavailable, Nathaniel Phillips can make his first-team debut alongside Virgil van Dijk. Also, Joel Matip and Ragnar Klavan are said to be uncertain while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Rhian Brewster are benched for the long term.

Klopp has however reassured Liverpool supporters that the squad is set and he wouldn’t let anyone down despite what it looks like.
