Everton had a failed bid to sign Diego Costa from Chelsea

According to media outlet, Sun, Everton made a whooping £66.4m bid during the summer transfer window to sign controversial Chelsea striker, Diego Costa who rejected the bid as he was only interested in joining his former club Atletico Madrid.

Everton Manager, Ronald Koeman is said to have been interested in signing Diego Costa and was ready to break the Club’s transfer record to sign the striker to the Goodison park but the Brazilian was bent on joining his former club Atletico Madrid, despite being aware that he wouldn’t be able to secure a move to the Spanish side until January due to a FIFA imposed transfer ban.

The Toffees were also reported to have had interest in signing Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud but the Frenchman decided to stay back at Arsenal even though the Gunners were ready to let him go after the signing of Alex Lacazette.

Everton were not the only team to have had their bid for Diego Costa rejected, Seria A side AC Milan was also reported to have made a loan move for the striker but he wasn’t ready to consider any offer that wasn’t from Atletico Madrid.

Diego Costa is now on his way to rejoining Atletico Madrid after Chelsea confirmed the acceptance of Atletico’s £58m offer to sign him. The 28-year-old has since travelled to Spain for his medicals and agreement of other terms but he won’t be able to play for Atletico until January.
