Ex Arsenal and Barcelona player Fran Merida to join Leeds United

According to recent reports, former Barcelona academy graduate and Ex Arsenal wonder kid Fran Merida could be joining Championship Leaders Leeds United from Osasuna.

Leeds United coach Thomas Christiansen, is said to have his eyes on the 27-year-old who now plies his trade at La Liga relegated side Osasuna. The manager has allegedly sent scouts to keep tabs on the Spaniard.

Fran Merida joined Arsenal from Barcelona youth academy in 2006 and was tipped to be a potential successor for Cesc Fabregas at the long run. Unfortunately, the central midfielder only made 16 league appearances before joining Atletico Madrid in 2010. He has since played for Braga, Hercules, Atletico Paranaense, Huesa and now CA Osasuna where he has made 25 appearances with 2 goals to his name.

Though it has come at the late stage of his career, the left – footed man will be looking at making a return to England where he can finally get the opportunity to rebuild his career and prove that he still has something to offer by joining Championship leaders Leeds United who after nine games are topping the table with Cardiff and Wolves trailing by goal difference.

Fran Merida is remembered by Arsenal for his remarkable goal against Liverpool in the league cup in October 2009 which saw Arsenal triumph over the Reds by 2 goals to 1.
