Forget Gelson Martins, Arsenal told to pay £37.5M for star winger

Arsenal’s pursuit of talented Argentine winger Cristian Pavon has taken a new twist this week as his club Boca Juniors are determined to keep hold of the winger.

It is reported by Daily Mirror that the Argentine giants have offered the winger a new contract with a new release clause believed to be £37.5 million. If this is true the Gunners would have to pay close to £40 million for the Argentine international.

Unai Emery is reportedly in search of a winger after highlighting the flanks as one of the weak areas of the squad. High profile departures of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott last season means that the club are left with just Alex Iwobi as a true winger.

Arsenal have also been linked with a move for Portuguese winger Gelson Martins, though it is believed the 22-year-old has snubbed Arsenal in favour of Champions League football with Liverpool.

Pavon had a decent World Cup with Argentina but a fee of £37.5 million may be too much for the Argentine star. It would be interesting to see how this transfer would unfold in the following weeks as it remains to be seen if the Gunners could sanction a transfer for the 22-year-old.
