Armenian international, Henrikh Mkhitaryan who joined the Gunners on Monday in a direct swap deal involving Alexis Sanchez has been handed the number 7 jersey vacated by the Chilean.

The Armenian midfielder joined the Gunners on a three-and-a-half year deal with his wages reportedly to be around £170,000 per week, a figure which will make him the highest paid player at the Emirates while Chilean forward, Alexis Sanchez moves in the opposite direction to Old Trafford having signed a four-and-a-half year deal.

The attacking midfielder joined Manchester United in the summer of 2016 for a reported fee of £27 million from German side, Borussia Dortmund having been voted the best player in the Bundesliga after a stellar season and played a key role in the Red Devils Europa League triumph last term.

However, fast-forward into the new season he showed flashes of his brilliance like he did at Dortmund two years ago having racked up five assists in just three Premier League games but he fell out of favour at Old Trafford after series of lacklustre display and was often criticised by many for disappearing too much in games.

The 29-year-old will be hoping to regain his early season form at Manchester United for the Gunners by helping the north London club to a top-four finish as they bid to return to the Champions League next season having missed out this season after finishing fifth on the log last term.

Despite being handed the number 7 jersey in the League, the Armenian will have to wear a different number in the Europa League with the number been previously worn by Alexis Sanchez in the group stages of the Europa League as UEFA rules states only one player can wear a shirt number in European competition each season.
