Chelsea have finally arrived into the transfer scene with the London club confirming several deals yesterday as the Blues start their EPL campaign against Huddersfield. The Blues paid a record fee to snap stopper Kepa Arrizabalaga from Athletic Bilbao. Kepa cost £72 milllion surpassing the £66 million fee paid by Liverpool for Brazillian ace Alisson.

Kepa has gained a reputation during his time at Spain as an excellent stopper showing great confidence that belies his age. The Spaniard international is considered one of the best young goalkeepers in Europe and was a subject of a transfer bid from Madrid last summer.

Kepa told Chelsea’s official website of his delight in Making the switch to Stamford Bridge revealing that the Blues prestige made the move a no brainer.

“It’s a very important decision for me, for my career, and also for my personal life,”.

“So many things attracted me to the club, all the titles the club has won, the other players, the city, the English Premier League. It’s an accumulation of things, and I am very glad Chelsea has decided to trust me and to take me in as well.”

Also, yesterday saw the departure of world cup golden glove winner Thibaut Courtois to Spanish giants Real Madrid on a deal thought to be around £35 million. Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic also joined the Blues on a season-long loan in a player merry go round yesterday.

Is Kepa worth the fee that’s the question on many lips in England as the stopper only cost £18 million before signing a new contract last January which increased his release clause.

However, Chelsea fans won’t mind the fee if he puts in similar performances to outgoing stopper Thibaut Courtois.

Kepa made 55 first team appearances during his time at Athletic Bilbao.
