“I can’t give you any news” – Wenger delivers cryptic messsage to fans

Arsene Wenger has denied claims that the Gunners have made a bid for Westbrom defender Evans but admits he is looking to sign a player this January window.

The Arsenal manager speaking to journalists in the aftermath of the Gunners FA Cup exit to Nottingham Forest refuted claims that the Club was set to unveil a new player following reports that the Club had tabled a bid for the Westbrom defender.

When asked if there was progress in the Gunners pursuit of the player, Wenger replied: “No, I cannot give you any news on any transfer because we are not close to signing anybody, we signed a Greek boy [Mavropanos] who looks quite good in training but, apart from that, we have not done anything. “

The Gunners boss also hinted about his transfer plans, “Will we be out there to do something? Yes, we will.” He said.

Despite Arsene Wenger denying a deal was in place for Evans, reports continue to link the Westbrom captain to Arsenal with the latest reports suggesting a deal of around £25 million has been agreed between the two clubs.

The Gunners have already made a signing this January with Wenger confirming the signing of Greek defender Mavropanos from PAS Giannina, but it is expected the young defender would be sent on loan.

Arsene Wenger’s statement can be taking into context that the Westbrom defender is being considered by the Gunners but an official bid is yet to be tabled. It would be interesting to see how this develops as Arsenal defence is in dire need for a quality defender.
