Ivan Gazidis enjoys huge bonus

Arsenal have paid Ivan Gazidis a whopping £919,000 as bonus payment despite the club failing to reach the Champions League. The Arsenal chief executive has now been paid a total of £2.6m. The club finished 5th on the Premier League table, failing to reach the Champions League for the first time in 21 years. However, the man in charge still had a big bonus as revealed by the financial statement of 2016/17 sent to Arsenal stakeholders this week showing that the club didn’t suffer a huge loss in revenue.

The bonus and pay are quite similar to the previous year as the club posted a pre-tax revenue of £44.6m. The Gunners earned massive revenues from corporate sponsorship and match day earnings. Despite finishing fifth on the league table, Wenger’s team won the FA Cup by virtue of beating bitter rivals, Chelsea after a late Aaron Ramsey goal earned the Gunners our third cup title in just four years. Majority owner, Stan Kroenke extended the contract of legendary manager, despite some reservations from the board about the 2-year extension to his deal that expired at the end of last season.

Arsenal also failed to tie down the futures of star men, Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez and it is believed that both men will leave the Emirates at the end of the season on a free. This latest bonus will be another reason for the Arsenal faithful to complain bitterly about how our club is being run. The fans have cried out over a lack of investment to match out rivals and seeing this bonus will only heighten fears about the direction the club is headed. However, the board has consistently maintained that the club is being run in the best way possible with the aim of maximizing profits.
