Jose Mourinho keen on signing three players in January

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho has highlighted three areas in which he needs to strengthen his squad this month according to reports from English publication Goal.

Reports from the Dailymail understands the Portuguese wants a right-back, left-back and also an attacking midfielder after falling 15 points behind runaway Premier League leaders, Manchester City who have only dropped four points so far this season.

The Red Devils addressed a four match winless streak in all competitions after securing a comfortable 2-0 win against the Toffees on New Year’s day at Goodison Park.

At right-back, a cover for Ecuadorian defender, Antonio Valencia is needed with Matteo Darmain failing to nail down a starting berth since he secured a £12.6 million move from Italian side, Torino to Manchester United in the summer of 2015, while at left-back, injury plagued Luke Shaw has been impressive since his return to the starting line-up with English winger and fullback, Ashley Young shifted to right-back due to an hamstring injury to Antonio Valencia.

Despite the impressive form of Luke Shaw, his track record of getting injured easily is still a big worry for the Red Devils hierarchy and might see the 20-times Premier League champions move for either Alex Sandro or Danny Rose.

In attacking midfield, United need another creative outlet having relied solely on influential midfielder, Paul Pogba to provide the creative spark.

Meanwhile, in the Frenchman absence, the Red Devils have struggled to score and dominate games and with Armenian playmaker, Henrikh Mkhitaryan falling down the pecking order having failed to replicate his early season form, there is need for a new playmaker if United wants to close the gap on table toppers Manchester City in the second half of the season.
