Jurgen Klopp reveals surprise change of position for Liverpool marquee signing Fabinho

Liverpool’s boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Fabinho could be used as a supporting centre-half this season following the confirmation of Ragnar Klavan from Anfield.

The Reds coughed out about £40million in securing the signature of the Brazilian international after the defeat conceded by Liverpool in their Champions League final match against Real Madrid and Fabinho is expected to fill the vacuum in Klopp’s midfield.

Although, in the last Sunday victory the red had by thrashing West Ham to win 4-0, the former Monaco star was an unused substitute, leaving Naby Keita, James Milner and Gini Wijnaldum to handle the middle flank.

Klopp is however certain that Fabinho can actually have a part to play in the central defence as the season campaign continues especially with the pending Klavan’s move to Cagliari.

‘I was never in doubt about Joe’s ability to play there. He just needed time. ‘He’s a very good football player. He has a good understanding with Virgil. Matip is close to be back, hopefully in the squad for Monday. We have Nat Phillips and Fabinho can play there too.’

The German coach indicated Joe to be a skilful footballer that has a good understanding with Virgil. He furthermore made it known Matip will be back soon and hopefully by Monday and mentioned Fabinho and Nat Philips as a backup that can slot in.

Following the non-appearance of Fabinho in last week’s match, Fabinho disclosed that it will be difficult to play in his former position as the competition is high unlike when he was at Monaco.

However, the competition might actually bring a change of position for Fabinho but it is believed the Brazilian would adapt to what Klopp brings.
