Kristof Terreur: Toby Alderweireld will not leave Tottenham Hotspur

According to Belgian football journalist Kristof Terreur, top rated Premier League defender Toby Alderweireld will not leave Tottenham Hotspur for Liverpool as the Reds are looking out-of-sorts thus far this season despite their exploits to finish in the top four last term.

Liverpool’s chase for the Tottenham Hotspur centre-back was dealt a big blow by the journalist’s remarks who believes a pay rise isn’t going to be enough to lure the defender to Anfield but also the chances of winning trophies which Liverpool presently do not have after a unimpressive campaign so far this season.

Though the 28-year-old recently claimed that he is happy at his current club, he also revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have failed to offer him a new contract which comes as a big boost to the clubs who have the highly rated defender on their radar.

After a successful loan spell at Southampton, Alderweireld joined Tottenham Hotspur from Atletico Madrid in 2015 for a fee estimated at £11.5 million on a four-year contract with an option to extend for one year.

Speaking on Alderweireld potential move to Liverpool, Terreur said;

“I don’t think he’ll move from Spurs to Liverpool at this point,” he said. “I don’t see that happening.”

“They can offer more money but is it a step forward in a football way? I don’t see so at this point.”

“That’s the one [big club] I exclude,”

Liverpool is deemed to be a potential destination for the Dutch to help strengthen their squad as they are currently suffering defensively after failing to sign their top target Virgil Van Dijk in the summer. Jurgen Klopp side are currently trailing behind top placed Manchester City by 7 points after putting up unimpressive performances in their last few matches.
