At a point this season he looked destined to leave Old Trafford having struggled to get playing time under the Special One but it seems Luke Shaw has made a huge impression on Jose Mourinho after the Portuguese claimed there is no better left-back than the English defender currently.

One of the areas highlighted by Jose Mourinho to strengthen in the January transfer window was the left-back position having used English winger Ashley Young has a makeshift left-back more often this season despite boasting of two natural left-sided defenders in Daley Blind and Luke Shaw.

The 20-time Premier League champions were heavily linked with a move for Tottenham defender, Danny Rose, Juventus defender, Alex Sandro and Fulham teenage sensation, Ryan Sessegnon this January transfer window with the Special One keen to bring in a natural left-sided defender before the window shuts.

However, an unexpected hamstring injury to Antonio Valencia during the festive period forced the Special One to play Luke Shaw on the left hand side of the defence while Ashley Young was moved to right-back.

Meanwhile, having enjoyed a run of five consecutive start for the first time under the Portuguese and putting in series of impressive displays at left-back, the former Southampton defender seems to have won over Jose Mourinho and has made the left-back position his own.

With the 22-year-old looking fitter and composed than ever, he has worked his way back into Jose’s plan and has ended the Red Devils search for a new left-back.
