Liverpool have reportedly joined bitter rivals Manchester United in the race to sign Welsh superstar, Gareth Bale ahead of a potential summer move.

The Wales international who joined Real Madrid as the most expensive player in 2013 from English side, Tottenham Hotspur has been linked with a move away from the Bernabeu having been plagued with injuries over the last few years.

English giants, Manchester United have been tipped as favorites to land the attacking midfielder should he decide to leave the Spanish capital but report from Goal.com understands that the Welshman could be the subject of a two-way transfer battle between arch-rivals Liverpool and Manchester United with both sides keen on signing the winger this summer.

It is believed the Reds have earmarked him as a perfect replacement for former Liverpool playmaker, Phillipe Coutinho who moved to the Nou Camp for a reported fee of £145 million this month.

However, with the Los Blancos willing to sell Gareth Bale for a reported fee in the region of £83 million at the end of the season as they hope to recoup a fee similar to what they paid for his signature in 2013 and the Reds still yet to spend the £145 million made in the sale of Coutinho, they could steal a march on rivals United in the race to sign the Welsh wizard.

The 28-year-old has won every trophy available at the Bernabeu since he joined the Spanish giants five years ago and could be open to a return to the Premier League with Real Madrid been heavily linked with a move for Belgian winger, Eden Hazard in the summer.

He has featured in 13 games for the La Liga champions across all competitions scoring 6 times and providing 3 assists.
