Liverpool open talks with prolific attacker ahead of potential move

According to the Daily Express, Liverpool have opened talks with Riyad Mahrez regarding a possible move, although the Algerian is rumoured to be holding out for a switch to Arsenal.

According to the reports, sources at Leicester claim the Reds have gone a step forward and have open talks with Mahrez’s representatives regarding a transfer. The Merseysiders are actively looking for replacements for the departed Coutinho and have been linked with a host of names.

Although Liverpool have distanced themselves regarding a deal for the playmaker, the report claims the Algerian is among the players in Jurgen Klopp’s wishlist.

Mahrez has expressed his desire to leave Leicester City and handed in a transfer request last summer. The Algerian has a property in London and Arsenal are reportedly his preference, though he would be open to a move to Liverpool if there is no interest from the Gunners.

Leicester boss Claude Puel however insists the Club are not looking to sell the Maestro. Mahrez still has three years left on his £100,000 a week  contract and Puel claims Mahrez is happy at the club.

The 26-year-old appears to have re-captured the form that saw him crowned the PFA player of the year in 2015,his recent impressive form has reportedly garnered interest from Top European clubs.
