Not Valencia: Defender’s fitness in doubt ahead of Bristol City game

Manchester United are concerned about the fitness of English international, Ashley Young over the busy Christmas period.

The English midfielder has made the left-back spot his own after series of impressive displays so far, this season despite the Red Devils boasting of two natural left-backs in Luke Shaw and Daley Blind.

Reports from English publication the Daily Star suggests the 20-times Premier League champions are worried the wing-back risks being fatigued if not properly rested over the hectic Christmas schedule.

An inside source close to the club as quoted, he said;

“The club are concerned Ashley is risking a bit of burnout and are treading carefully. He also added,

“He has had a small rest, but not enough. He has p has been fantastic.

“The conditioning staff have seen the data and want to preserve his aging legs coming over the busy Christmas period.

However, the former Aston Villa winger might have to sit out some games in the coming weeks as United face an hectic six games in 17 days over the hectic Christmas period with the Special One expected to rotate his squad heavily.

The 32-year-old has featured in 16 games for the Red Devils across all competitions of which he started only one from the bench scoring twice and providing three assists.

With Jose Mourinho likely to rotate his squad heavily over this hectic Christmas period, it’s high time fringe players such as Luke Shaw and Daley Blind show they have got what it takes to force themselves into the Special One plans ahead of the January transfer window.
