Man United dealt blow as influential star suffers injury

Belgian forward Romelu Lukaku has reportedly picked up an ankle injury while away on international duty with Belgium. Although, the 24-year-old is reportedly being checked over by National team doctors to determine if he is fit enough to play in Belgium’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Bosnia and Cyprus.

He was not seen training with his teammates today having joined the team earlier today, but United manager Jose Mourinho will be hoping his talisman has not suffered a serious injury. With Belgium having secured qualification for the World Cup already, Lukaku won’t be a major blow to his country and would be expected to cope well in his absence if he is not fit enough to play against Bosnia and Cyprus.

The 24-year-old has been nothing short of sensational since joining the Red Devils in the summer from Everton making his £75 million price tag look like a bargain already and will definitely be a big blow to Manchester United if he is out for a long-term. Portuguese tactician, Jose Mourinho will be hoping the striker’s injury is nothing serious with United facing an acid test away at Anfield after the international break.

Jose Mourinho when asked about United growing injury list, he said:

“We never miss the players that are injured. He added,

“That’s our way of seeing it. They are injured, we don’t think about them. ‘It’s an opportunity for others, is a moment for others to step up and to get the chance, so I think that’s good.

“When we moan all the time about injuries it looks like we don’t trust the other people and we have to.”

Romelu Lukaku has scored 11 goals and provided one assist in 10 games for United in all competitions. The 24-year-old is topping the scorers chart already with seven top flight goals in as many games he has played so far.
